XXXI Russian Antique Salon Post Release
On October 30, 2011, XXXI Russian Antique Salon, the main event in Russian antique business, closed its doors. Salon demonstrated the enviable stability of old-art market – in terms of both economic consistency and collectible priorities. The exhibition counted over 25 000 visitors and 250 participants. Exposition area covered 7 000 sq. m. and occupied the entire area of CHA.
Top-list of the most important works still heads the Russian art school in all its variety, from portrait painting of 18th century and large-format works of the masters of the second half of 19th century to Supremacist works and formalism of early 20th century. Thus, among the high-quality works, exhibited at the Salon, one could see the fundamental works of Aivazovsky, Savrasov, Polenov, Maliavin, Falk, Shoukhaiev, Drevin, Samokhvalov, Pimenov and rare in quality works of Bashkirtseva, Chashnik and others.
An increasing number of galleries prefer to exhibit thematic expositions, which are interesting not only as exhibition projects, but as some kind of mini-collections, which potentially may become a core of future collection.
This is true not only for paintings and graphics, but also for arts and crafts. Silver items from Russian manufacturers, ceramics and art deco furniture, collectible specimen of Russian furniture and miniatures, reaching the level of the museum’s collections, not to mention already traditional Soviet porcelain expositions - this is not a complete list of the leading themes in this sector.
Special project of the exhibition was «Empire – the Style of Two Emperors». This small exposition of masterpieces, compiled by curator Olga Strougova, one of the leading Russian experts on the history of interior design, was notable for its integrity and high-quality materials. This confirms the qualitative growth of national old-art market and that it is being a part of a complex process of preservation, study and popularization of art heritage, as it is in the international practice, and not only the art-dealing business.
Organizers invite you to visit ĠĠĠII Russian Antique Salon at CHA from March 3 till March 10, 2012.
