XXV RUSSIAN ANTIQUE SALON
XXV RUSSIAN ANTIQUE SALON: press-release Central House of Artists
Moscow, Russia
18 – 26 October, 2008
On October 18, 2008, the Russian Antique Salon will open its anniversary 25th season. On its three floors, the Central House of Artists (Krymsky Val) will accommodate more than 200 galleries. Leading participants of the Russian antiquarian market will present their collections and works of art of various periods and schools, in which specialists, collectors, and antiquaries display unflagging interest.
The 25th Russian Antique Salon will be held at the crucial moment for the development of the Russian antiquarian arts market, marked with its integration into the international art market. The key event in this respect was the establishment, on the Salon’s premises in 2004, of the International Confederation of Antique & Art Dealers (ICA&AD), a professional association purported to form a civilized antiquarian market in Russia. Through ICA&AD, the Russian antiquarian community has started cooperation with the international antiquarian community. At the 25th Russian Antique Salon, for the second time, experts elected by ICA&AD will be accredited to the International Confederation of Art and Antiques Dealer Associations, which means that Russian experts enjoy international recognition, while the Russian antiquarian market is gaining in reputation.
Consistent efforts toward expanding and strengthening the institution for professional expertise, as well as salon preparations with an active participation of several specialized expert councils, comprising high-profile specialists, have given the Russian Antique Salon the status of a kind of qualifications commission and "quality seal" for the market participants. And that is another essential factor due to which the Russian Antique Salon actively contributes to the development of the antiquarian business and the growth of its authority in the eyes of the community.
All these years, the organizers have made efforts to develop the Antique Salon in line with the highest international exhibition standards. The Salon's central zone for thematic expositions was created after the best Western exhibitions. Meeting the organizers' requirements, galleries have, for several years now, created thoroughly selected thematic expositions dedicated to specific masters, subject matters, periods, or artistic trends. It is needless to say that the central zone is a place for the most reputable Russian and foreign galleries.
High-quality of art pieces, wide-range offers, including innovative ones for the domestic market branches, and a well-balanced expositional and culture-promotional policy make the Salon invariably interesting to specialists, collectors, and the mass media, and increasingly visited by the public.
This fall, the Russian Antique Salon will present an extensive exposition of paintings, sculptures, graphic arts, decorative arts and crafts of traditionally superb quality. As always popular at the Salon remain Oriental pieces and the works by expatriate Russian masters. Connoisseurs will be surprised to see an exposition of the 13th-18th-century European stained glass items, a new practice for Russian collectors.
Special Project: Flora Danica. Danish Royal Porcelain
Traditionally, the Russian Antique Salon presents special museum expositions. This time, guests will have a unique opportunity to see some porcelain items from the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory (18th-19th centuries). The exhibits include several pieces from the royal porcelain set Flora Danica, created by the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory for the Empress Catherine the Great.
